CARE INTERNATIONAL

Established in Rwanda in 1984, CARE International in Rwanda has over thirty five years’ experience supporting women and girls in Rwanda’s rural communities, while working with the Government to effect lasting change, and strengthening civil society for localized impact.
Since 1984, CARE International in Rwanda has focused on four areas of programming—each meeting the changing immediate needs of the most vulnerable. The early years focused on Reforestation and Environmental Protection, followed by Emergency, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation programming from 1994 – 1999. Our strategy then prioritized HIV/AIDS and Orphans and Vulnerable Children programming, followed by Economic and Social Empowerment, Women’s Rights from 2005 until 2016.

In 2017, CARE launched its new Rwanda programme strategy, identifying women and girls aged 10-59 years (in categories 1 and 2 of Rwanda’s Ubudehe poverty ranking) as the target group where it can have the most impact. Development programming is complemented by emergency programming addressing the needs of disaster -affected populations—particularly refugees.
Such an approach builds on our strengths in country as:
One of the few international NGOs leading in gender justice.

Breakthrough ACTION

Breakthrough ACTION is a five-year cooperative agreement funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to lead their SBC programming around the world.

Breakthrough ACTION is a partnership led by the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs in collaboration with Save the Children, ThinkAction, ideas42, Camber Collective, International Center for Research on Women, and Viamo.

Breakthrough ACTION ignites collective action and encourages people to adopt healthier behaviors—from using modern contraceptive methods and sleeping under bed nets to being tested for HIV—by forging, testing, and scaling up new and hybrid approaches to social and behavior change (SBC).

Firmly grounded in proven practices, Breakthrough ACTION works in partnership with governments, civil society, and communities around the world to implement creative and sustainable SBC programming, nurture SBC champions, mainstream new techniques and technologies, and advocate strategic and sustained investment in SBC.

The work harnesses the demonstrated power of communication—from mass media to community outreach to user-driven social media campaigns—to inspire long-lasting change, while also taking advantage of innovative approaches from marketing science, behavioral economics, and human-centered design.

In Rwanda, Breakthrought ACTION is working to build the capacity of Society for Family Health and the Rwanda Health Communicaiton Center in social and behavior change communication.

American Refugee Committee

Since 1994,The American Refugee Committee has built a team that can act quickly in emergencies – but who can think creatively, act compassionately, and constantly strive to be simply better. Our programs are diverse in Rwanda, with health, livelihoods, nutrition, protection, shelter, and sanitation and sanitation programs throughout the refugees camps where we work. Rwanda is a small country, but our team – and the people we serve – are mighty. Our health services save lives. More children are reaching their fifth birthday than ever before, with 100% vaccination rates and vast improvements in maternal health. We provide clean, reliable water through ARC’s camp-wide water systems. Our strength is in the design and construction of durable, cost-effective structures, we build housing, latrines, showers, and cooking areas. We help people to rebuild resiliency and find a place of stability in an otherwise uncertain world.

African Evangelistic Enterprise (AEE) Rwanda

AEE Rwanda was established in 1984, with the work best being characterized in two phases, the pre-genocide period (1984-1994), and the post-genocide period (1994-present).

AEE responded to the post-genocide phase by revamping existing programs and establishing different programs while staying committed with AEE’s “word and deed” mission. Since the establishment of AEE more than 30 years ago, the organization has changed the lives of thousands of Rwandans while spreading the love of Christ through this great nation.
